Friends of The Pointer
Although we have our own farm and butchers we are not yet to the pointer of supplying 100% of our own produce at the Pointer. We have spent years building relationships with other artisan suppliers who share our ethos for sustainable farming and production.
We are proud of the Pointer and in turn proud of the suppliers we use so have decided to share them with you.
Always looking to make new friends so if you know of anyone who you think we would get on with please get in touch.
Brian Hawes – is a local regular. He’s found at least 3 times a week propping up the bar in the afternoons and has helped supply the kitchen with locally foraged treats as well as a few bits from his own garden. Brian knows where the best elderberries and wild garlic is and kept us in supply of gooseberries all summer which we swapped for a weekly lunch and a pint of ale.
Ampersand (&.) Butter – Cultured butter produced from a herd of local jersey cows. Grant started by making the butter for his brothers wedding and after suffering a Knee injury, spent his recovery time learning and perfecting the process.
Nortons Farm Rose Veal – The farm was first purchased by Lucy’s father in 1980 and run as such for quite some time. After short break from farming in 2008 Lucy rekindled the farm and started keeping sheep for milk and meat. this escalated to jersey cattle and it was then Lucy found out that the Jersey calves were culled at birth as there is no real value to them commercially.Lucy has endeavoured to let these steers live a free range lifestyle and use them for humane rose veal. they live a short but happy life and because of that Norton’s farm produce some of the best Veal we have ever tasted.
Butts Farm Rare Breed Beef – Although we have our own herd of Native longhorn cattle there are times we are unable to continually supply our kitchen and butchers. we have worked with Butts farm for nearly a year now after visiting their farm and seeing the standards they keep and rear their live stock. Butts farms master butcher, Gary Wallace is as passionate as we are with his rare breed livestock.
Cackleberry farm eggs – Run by Paddy and Steph Bourns, their rare breed flocks of Arlington whites live in traditional chicken houses across 12 acres of land, with perches and are entirely free range.
Bucksum farm – David and Tracey started off with a single poly-tunnel 10 years ago and have since grown the farm to supply top chefs around the country as well as local mums. we are lucky to have them on our door step and help us to fill the gaps in our own harvests.
UE Coffee Roasters and Jeeves + Jerico Tea – The UK’s first and only wood fired roastary, pioneering new and exciting techniques, UE coffee has a strong vision and has built a reputation across the UK for exceptionally coffee. Using Rainforest certified coffee farms and buying directly from the farms means that there is a direct relationship with UE and the Farmers that grow for them. this give the farmers a fair cut of the profits and allows UE to select the beans right from the very start.
XT Brewery – A relatively new brewery Russ and Gareth started XT in 2011. Keeping it simple the beers are brewery and each has its own number. we love XT 4 so much we have made it our House Ale. the other side to XT is Animal Brewing Company where they experiment in small batches brewing with new ideas, ingredients and techniques
Vale Brewery – We are exceptionally lucky to have a brewery no more than 2 miles away from the pub. we are even Luckier in the fact its Vale Brewery. Mark & Phil Stevens founded Vale 20 years ago and have been brewing beer with no artificial ingredients with skill since. they have a range of beer to suit everyone and have a permanent place at the Pointer.
Rebellion Beer – started by two school friends rebellion has been brewing in Marlow for 23 years and have one of the busiest brew shops of anywhere in the country. Rebellion were one of the first ‘Micro Breweries’ in the country and despite producing over 4 million pints a year still operate as a family and friends business. They have a huge recycle policy from giving away the spent grain and hops to farmers and gardeners to recycling the used water from flushing tanks to clean and mop the floors.
3 C’s Cider – This cider sums up the Farm to Fork ethos we share at the Pointer. Born of three friends who for years have got together with a press they purchased from Ebay and made their own cider to share with their friends. 3C’s production is a lot more refined nowadays but the quality hasn’t dropped and they only bottle in really good years.
H2VIN Wines – Founded by Christian Honorez and Master Sommelier Matt Wilkin H2Vin has been going from strength to strength. They support and source wine from single estate producers and help us to find some real hidden gems. Just like the Pointer quality and service is at the heart of everything they do.
Velvet Brown – We try, where possible, to supply our own wild flowers from our farm and gardens. We also link up with our favorite local florist Velvet Brown.
Robert Clarke Art – Robert Clarke’s artwork can be found around the Pointer, from the picture of our first prize bull ‘Alvar’ to the pub sign, Robert’s work plays an important part in the feel and ambiance of the Pointer.
