The Restaurant
We love all that is best about simple and delicious English cooking.
Creating the ethos behind the food we serve at The Pointer – cooking what is best on the day – has been a team effort, a culinary delight and one that we very much hope you’ll share, too.
We are not just committed to using seasonal ingredients, but, wherever we possibly can, also believe in growing, harvesting and rearing the produce ourselves. When we say ‘local’ we mean it. We breed our own English Longhorn cattle, Kune Kune and Tamworth pigs and most of our meat – the very best free-range British beef, pork, lamb and chicken – comes from our own farm or from the surrounding area – so expect to find some surprises on the menu from time to time.
That is not to say we won’t sometimes source meat and produce from further afield. We couldn’t be further from the sea in Bucks, so obviously our fish, wild and sustainably caught, has to travel.
The best way to find out what is on today’s menu is to walk through the door and ask! But feel free to give us a call. You’ll sometimes be able to find out what succulent meat we are roasting (often overnight in the slow oven), what’s been brought up from the Coast or discover more about our various local suppliers by visiting our news page.
Following its recent restoration, The Pointer is now home to a brand new open-plan kitchen where you can see our Chefs at work. The beautiful, elegant restaurant space, opened right up to the eaves with vaulted ceilings and antique Ercol chairs, is warm, light and carefully sophisticated. If you feel like something a little more intimate and prefer the bar or the gardens – if summer ever arrives – or by the fire if it doesn’t – then you’re free to eat, space permitting, wherever you like.
